We often see beautiful images of bloggers or influencers with incredible nice colours. It can be any image, as simple as just a random shot of a window view, a workspace or pretty much anything…
But how do they do it? How can they make any photo look so good??
Easy! They use Presets, mostly Lightroom Presets that add that magic spell to any photo.
Read on to know all you need about Lightroom and how you can use it even if you have no idea about photo edition.

What is Lightroom.
“Adobe Photoshop Lightroom” (a.k.a. Lightroom or LR) is a photo editor software created by the same company of Photoshop (the company is called Adobe).
LR can be found in 2 formats: Desktop and Mobile.
It can be described as the lighter version of Photoshop, but keeping the same levels of professional finish.
Lightroom covers the majority of the image manipulation tools you’ll most likely need.
Basic functions of Lightroom include: cropping, white balance, exposure, histogram, tonal curves, sharpening, noise reduction, vibrance, saturation and lots of other adjustments as well as cloud-based image organization.
Okay, okay…. But what if you have no idea about editing images or your knowledge is pretty basic?
I got you! Keep reading because at the end of this article you will know how to get LR for free, a basic tutorial to enhance your images with LR, and you will discover the secret on how to give that nice boost to your photos!
How to get Lightroom for FREE.
Lightroom Desktop (known as “Lightroom CC”) pricing runs from $120/year to $240/year (auch!).
But there is a way to having Lightroom for free: using the mobile app!
The Lightroom Mobile App, available for iOS and Android versions, is completely FREE!
Whereas the Desktop version only works under payment or subscription, the mobile app of Lightroom is completely free forever!
Even though you can always upgrade to a more complete version by paying a subscription, but the free version has outstanding professional features!
Also the mobile app allows you to save you images in the highest resolution possible! Yay!!!
Lightroom Basic Tutorial for dummies.
This tutorial is for Lightroom Mobile (the app); and I will show you some basic tweaks that will correct your images.
These corrections will tackle most of the most frequent problems your images might have.
First you need to add a photo by clicking the “+” button, or take a photo by clicking the camera icon (both are at the bottom-right corner).
Now that you have a image, let’s start with the basic adjustments you need to know. I will go through the different tabs at the bottom:
CROP: Use the “Straighten” feature (I always use it). You can also crop your image if you need to. Once you’re done, tap on the check icon at the top-right corner anytime you need to save the changes.
AUTO: LR will do all the corrections for you (this one is fantastic). After clicking here you can add some more personal adjustments of your own if you want. In case you don’t like the way AUTO corrects your image, simple click on the backwards arrow to undo these changes.
Normally after using AUTO your image is all set. But in case you don’t want to do the Auto correction, you can apply the rest of the tools described next.
LIGHT:
Exposure: Use this one to add or remove light from your images. It is better to have bright images than dark ones.
Contrast: Don’t over do it but normally I put it back a little bit.
Highlights: It works with lights, and I normally put it back as much as possible.
Whites: Adds white to the whites on the images and Black adds dark to blacks. Play with them to see the effect, but sometimes they cause no effects.
COLOR:
Saturation: I prefer less saturated images because they have a more elegant look.
Vibrance: Adds lots of energy to your image.
Temp: adds yellowish or bluish tone to your image in case your photo looks too yellow or too blue (frequent times you won’t need to use it).
Trick: If you want to make the blue colour more blue (skies, seas, etc. for example): click on “Mix”, tap the blue colour and play with the saturation and luminance (increasing them).
DETAIL: Sharpening adds more focus to your image. Noise Reduction always increase it a little bit (30-40).
OPTICS: Toggle both.
RESET: Use this want to start all over or to a back point of the edition.
Using these adjustments are enough to correct all the issues your image may have. Play with all them and after using them a few times you will start to get the hang of it and you will correct all your images more intuitively.
Okay, that’s great and image now looks better, but where is all that magic boost I was talking about at the beginning of this article??? Here it comes!

Lightroom presets are like “filters”. They are a set of already-made settings and adjustments that create an effect over any photograph.
Using the same preset to all of your images is the best way to create a theme on your instagram feed for example.
Using a preset over an image will give instant awesomeness to your photo in one single click!
Trick: when using presets test on both edited and unedited images. Then keep the one that satisfy you the most.
